Visit Nonza

Is visiting Cape Corsica part of your travel plans for Corsica?

Your road trip must include the most beautiful cities on the peninsula.

Arriving from the north, only 30 minutes by car from Saint-Florent, the road that descends traces endless loops in this dense maquis. At the bottom of the road, you can see the historic village of Nonza, hanging over the sea on the rock of U Monte and dominating a black pebble beach.

This is definitely a highlight if you want to visit Cap Corse in 1 day.

A little history:

What to do in Nonza?

You will find that there are many things to visit: monuments, ruins, a little tour of the village and why not a trip to the beach too.

The Paoline Tower :

This Genoese tower is worth a visit! It would have been built in the 18th century on the remains of the Avogari castle. It is a square, three-storey tower in green schist which is not Genoese. Indeed, it would have been erected to watch over the entrance to the Gulf of Saint-Florent and to preserve the independence of Corsica.

In the village :

The small central square, Piazza, is really lovely.

It allows you to observe the parish church Santa-Giulia (Sainte-Julie or Santa Ghjulia in Corsica) colorful and baroque style: orange and yellow. a church registered with the Monuments.

Historical since 1984.
At the northern entrance of the village, under the road, a staircase of 54 steps will lead you to the fountain Sainte Julie, whose waters are reputed to be miraculous.

Gourmets can also visit an eco-museum dedicated to the citron.

The beach :

Do not miss the famous black pebble beach. This beach is quite recent, it was formed thanks to (or because of) the asbestos extraction factory, the waste (of course harmless) was thrown into the sea. Deep blue water awaits you there. But you have to earn it! It is very difficult to park and to get there (more than 500 steps down) but you will not be disappointed.

It is not surprising that Nonza was elected favourite village of the French in 2016.
